I dug up some leeks & parsnips today just to check on progress and was very pleased!
The biggest parsnip was 36cm / 14 inches long and the only one so far not to have bifurcated.
Must admit I am quite proud!

Good going! Only one end of my veg plot managed to spawn some rather large specimens akin to yours. I grew Excalibur parsnips and I have to say, the colder it's got the tastier they've become, so I'm hanging on for a bit longer before I dig up the remaining smaller ones. So far I've roasted mine, and made a curried parsnip soup too. Delicious, nothing beats veg straight out of the ground and straight into the pot :)
Cracking parsnips!
You mention that some of them are bifurcated. I got around that problem with my carrots and parsnips by taking the advice that they should not be planted in a bed recently amended with high-nitrogen fertilizers such as animal manures. Also, I'm from California, and I do not know what is meant by an "allotment." Does that mean you garden in an area that the government gives you? We call them community gardens here. You need to be on a waiting list, and then you get a little plot that you can take care of.
I'm quite proud of my leeks and parsnips too!
I love parsnips but can't get them here. We spend every Christmas in Germany and my first stop is the greengrocers. Shall have to try and get some seeds to see if they'll grow on a balcony ...
