Poo!!

I’ve found a wonderful free supply of extremely well rotted horse manure. As you can see from the picture it’s a HUGE pile! Rich & crumbly, I was able to cut through it with my spade as if cutting peat sods and filled the car with 15 bags which are now stacked next to the almost finished, compost bin.

That's the stuff you need and as much as you can get. I've got to order mine in to put on over the winter.

Hey, I saw the posting over at AN21 - Happy Birthday! Mine is on Friday, so nice to know the others around this time (I'm taking it off too, but not sure about DH).

This year I put down sheets of newspapers over paths between beds and then put down burlap green coffee bags over the newspapers. It eliminated mowing between the beds and trying to keep the grass out of the beds. I also used bags in idle sections of beds. The newspaper is decomposing now. I liked the flexibility of the bags as I could move parts as needed. This saved so much work. So I'm sold on smothering weeds & grass.
